We are pleased to announce the addition of Joseph A. Laroski Jr. to our team as a partner. Joe comes to us from the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, where he was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Negotiations.
Joe brings broad trade law, policy, and negotiation experience to Schagrin Associates. While at Commerce, Joe oversaw the strengthening of programs and policies that protect American businesses, workers, farmers, and ranchers from unfairly traded imports, enabling them to compete on a level playing field. During his tenure, Commerce countervailed subsidies involving undervalued currencies for the first time, launched the first self-initiated antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) investigations in more than 25 years, cracked down on circumvention and evasion of AD/CVD orders (including by initiating nine inquiries based on Commerce’s own monitoring of trade patterns), enhanced its monitoring of steel and aluminum imports, and renegotiated key provisions of existing trade agreements to improve the competitiveness of U.S. industry.
Joe draws upon his vast experience both inside and outside of government to assist clients in all aspects of international trade law, policy, and negotiation. In addition to his government service as a senior Commerce Department Official, Joe served in the U.S. International Trade Commission, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and the U.S. Court of International Trade. He also spent 14 years in private practice.
